Meat.
Ok, I can safely say that I am not an adventurous eater. Sure, there are some things I enjoy that others may not–anchovies or burnt toast (yum) come to mind–but I generally stay away from anything strange. I don’t even like most seafood. I like my meat cooked to near cardboardishness.
Though I’m not very keen on consuming freakish food, I do enjoy learning more about such things. Today I discovered Weird Meat, a blog devoted to reporting on some of the more interesting food items I’ve heard of.
Like what, you ask? How about some scary looking chicken embryos or “noodles” made of fish crap? Not your cup of tea? Perhaps a delectable vertical pork bone, complete with a bendy straw to suck out the marrow!
Looking at all these strange (and supposedly tasty) treats makes me almost want to experiment. Almost. Though, I think I could handle the kudu jerky.
UPDATE
Thought I’d tack this one on here as well.
While living in Spain a few years ago I observed bowls of what appeared to be blood-colored Knox blocks in a number of tapas bars. It turned out to be just that — congealed blood. I have eaten (and enjoyed in varying degrees) everything from raw octopus to “innards” soup that looked like liquefied liverwurst, but here I had to draw the line.
Gross Traditional Edibles of Europe. Word.
THANKS FOR THE LINK, JIMMY.
