World Science Festival 2009: Bobby McFerrin Demonstrates the Power of the Pentatonic Scale

It’s unfortunate that many people only remember Bobby McFerrin as the “Don’t Worry Be Happy” guy. Don’t get me wrong, that is one hell of a catchy tune, but there’s a lot more to Bobby than that.

Here’s a few of my personal favorites:

Improvisation with Richard Bona
Drive
Montreux Jazz Festival with Chick Corea

WIZZLES, WIZZLA, WIZZLES, WIZZLA

I think, if you were on drugs, this would ruin you:

Peter Bjorn and John – “Lay It Down”

Personally, I like “Nothing To Worry About” more… though I don’t find rockabilly Asians quite as mind-warping (even the giant haired ones).

You’ll be swimmin’ with the fishes, see!

Yeah, posting things. I’m there.

I happened upon a great collaboration between Adult Swim (or is it adult swim? [adult swim]? Annnywho..) and Ghostly International called Ghostly Swim.

It’s a funktastically electronic compilation featuring some pretty kick-ass artists, and the best part is that it’s freely available to stream and download! You can also pick up a physical copy on Ghostly’s site.

Still not convinced? Here’s a video to further explorer the aforementioned awesomeness:

Be sure to check out more Deastro, Michna, and Mux Mool (from Moodgadget).

This is freaking awesome:

But wait, there’s more! Check out more tracks at Kutiman’s site, Thru You.

These mixes remind me of the VideoSongs by Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn of Pomplamoose. You’ll see every instrument or vocal part in the video somewhere.

To me, the big difference between Kutiman and Pomplamoose (other than style of music, of course) is that Kutiman is mixing from a bajillion video of questionable sound quality while Pomplamoose records at seemingly near studio quality. Both are awesome, but big kudos to Kutiman for making everything sound so clean and freakin’ funktastic regardless of the scattered and varied sources.

Thanks for the link Ken :D

BORSCH!
BORSCH! BORSCH!
BORSCH!

Made me think of Landing of Yuri Gagarin by Ozma. Though, not for musical reasons, obviously :)

I’ve made a beautiful remix, and also a top notch music video of said remix.

Why have I done these things?  Well, simply because I am classy, sophisticated, and by all accounts quite cultured.

Also, this is the first thing I’ve ever uploaded to YouTube.  How exciting!

So, yeah.. I was going to bed, but then I had this great idea to upgrade WordPress and all my freakin’ plugins. So I did. It was relatively painless but time consuming.

It seems WordPress now has tagging and other useful features I haven’t yet noticed! Exciting times, let me tell you.

Lastly, have some Hellsing Ultimate OVA 4 ending:

Generally, I don’t really care much for Nazis… but in marching catboy form? Yeah, I can dig it.

You march around that globe, Schrodinger. World domination is a-okay by me! *thumbs up*

So don’t change the dizzle, turn it up a little
I got a living room full of fine dime brizzles
Waiting on the Pizzle, the Dizzle and the Shizzle
G’s to the bizzack, now ladies here we gizzo

Yeah. I know. This is pretty much the coolest thing you’ve ever seen. No need to thank me.

Spotted over at VG Cats.

Some delicious musical items for your enjoyment

Interdisco is a netlabel based out of Switzerland. Their site says they release the music they like, and it just happens that I also like it quite a bit.

There’s an interesting mix of artists and music represented here. I would call it a sprinkling of electronica, some of it simplistic and downtempo, some experimental, with a dash of general indie sensibility thrown in for good measure. I honestly enjoy every track available on the site.

Here’s a few of my favorites:

8bitpeoples is a group of electronic artists that share a passion for classic video games and the music which can be derived from their hardware. It’s amazing what music you can make a Nintendo Gameboy spit out.

Here’s a trailer for the documentary Reformat the Planet by 2 Player Productions. It features a few 8bitpeoples artists doing what they like to do.

And a few tracks I like:

So, there you have it: The best music ever. Enjoy :)
